Spring Opening of Pool

Occasionally I get a call from a board member wanting to know why we are opening the pool a week or two before Memorial Day. The reason for this is primarily because it takes a few days to open a pool, we have multiple pools to open, and most importantly, we want to make sure all the equipment is working properly. When a pool has been idle all winter, it tends to act like an old automobile that has not been started in months and sat out all winter. It may not start right up, it may start up and run for a day then break down. Also, it takes a few days to get the pool temperature to 82-83 degrees.

I wish we could show up the day before, turn a switch, and be up and running...I can only wish though.

What most pool companies don't tell you

Most pool companies hire young men in their 20's. They expect these employees to clean and service approximately 8-10 per day. Contracts specify that community pools are to be cleaned prior to 10 a.m. daily to ensure they are serviced before most homeowners start to arrive. Assuming it takes an hour to fully service a pool, what time would these employees have to begin their route of 8-10 pools in order to be finished by 10 a.m.?

The answer is...there is no way this can happen. What really happens is these employees do not make it to every pool every day as per the contract. Or, they are in and out in 10-15 minutes and do not fully service the pool. Usually, the pool isn't vacuumed and the tile isn't scrubbed.

What Talkin Pools does:
We hire semi-retired individuals who know the meaning of a job well done. These "older" folks take ownership in each of their pools and go the extra mile to make sure each pool is pristene.

Additionally, we assign no more than 3-4 pools per semi-retired employee. Consequently, each pool is given full sevice, seven days a week. Also, we assign two employees to each route of 3-4 pools. Each employee cleans his 3-4 pools 3-4 mornings a week with his partner cleaning them the remainder of the week. They feel a sense of responsibility to each other. They are not going to leave their partner with a pool that wasn't fully serviced the day before.

We pay our semi-retired employees well. They like the early morning hours, some even say it is their daily exercise!!
